Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Lead (Children’s Nurse) to provide strong clinical leadership within our children’s care service. This role is ideal for a Band 6 Registered Children’s Nurse (RNC) looking to take the next step in their career.

The Clinical Lead will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, child-centred care for children with complex health needs and/or learning disabilities. You will play a key role in supporting nursing staff, driving clinical excellence, and ensuring compliance with CQC standards and best practice guidelines.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a balance of clinical expertise, team development, and governance oversight, ensuring that children receive the highest standard of care in community or home settings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the clinical team, working alongside the Registered Manager to ensure effective service delivery
  • Oversee and maintain high standards of clinical care, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance
  • Provide clinical supervision, appraisals, mentoring, and professional development for nursing staff
  • Drive clinical governance and quality improvement, including audits, incident reviews, and action planning
  • Deliver and coordinate specialist clinical training tailored to individual children’s needs
  • Ensure staff feel supported by establishing a strong clinical support network beyond traditional healthcare settings
  • Act as a point of contact for clinical advice, promoting evidence-based practice
  • Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, maintaining an inspection-ready service
  • Work collaboratively with families, multidisciplinary teams, and external professionals
  • Maintain accurate and high-quality clinical records and documentation

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) – Children’s Nursing (RNC) essential
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a senior or Band 6 nursing role
  • Experience working with children with complex needs and/or learning disabilities
  • Experience of clinical supervision and staff development
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding children and young people
  • Knowledge of CQC standards and clinical governance
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel (if required)

Desirable Skills

  • Teaching, mentoring, or assessing qualifications
  • Experience in community or home care settings
  • Experience leading audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of Child in Need and Child Protection processes
  • Experience delivering clinical training to teams
  • Familiarity with electronic care planning systems
