Job Title: Night Worker

Hours: Night shifts (including weekends and bank holidays)
About the Role
As a Night Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and wellbeing of residents within the project or hostel during night hours. You’ll provide essential support to clients, ensure the building is safe and secure, and help create a calm and supportive environment overnight.
This is a hands-on, people-focused role where you’ll be a reassuring presence for residents and play an important part in keeping the service running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the hostel remains clean, safe, and secure throughout the night.
- Conduct regular checks of all communal areas, rooms, and external surroundings.
- Monitor access to and from the building, ensuring only authorised entry.
- Respond promptly to any emergencies or incidents, completing reports as required.
- Support residents with their needs, offering a listening ear and practical help.
- Diffuse difficult situations and summon assistance when necessary.
- Handle telephone and general enquiries and perform basic administrative duties.
- Report repairs, maintenance issues, and health & safety concerns.
- Clean and prepare rooms for new residents when required.
- Maintain accurate written and electronic records of all occurrences during the shift.
- Work collaboratively with other staff, attending team meetings and briefings.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable, and confident working independently at night.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience working directly with the public or in a customer-focused environment.
- Understanding of homelessness or challenges faced by vulnerable or marginalised people.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.
- Genuine interest in helping people towards independent living.
- Calm and non-judgemental approach, with the ability to manage challenging behaviour.
- Basic IT skills or willingness to learn.
- Flexible and willing to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
